This time of year can sometimes be overwhelming and full of nonstop busyness. Taking a break from the chaos and spending some time getting your hands dirty with your child can be a perfect respite.
Some ideas to try:
MAKE SLIME
1 5oz bottle of glue
1 cup water
1
1
There are a couple ways you can make this even more appealing than it already is. I love to use colored glitter glue! Alternatively, you could add glitter or food coloring or confetti.
Mix 1 tsp borax and 1 cup water together
dump glue into this mixture
add 1 tbsp water to this mix
mix with hands in a bowl and you’re ready to play!
**After a lot of trial and error, I’m tweaking this recipe!**
**Mix together about 1/2 cup water and 1
MAKE PLAY DOUGH
2 ½ cups flour
½ cup salt
2(4oz) kool-aid packets
2 cups boiling water
3 tbsp vegetable oil
Mix dry ingredients together
add oil to the boiling water
slowly dump water into dry ingredients and continue mixing until desired consistency & cool enough to knead
knead until color is blended
I like to keep mine stored in sealed bags. I know other people keep theirs in
MAKE CHRISTMAS GOOP
This is so much fun, but, be warned, it can be MESSY! I always use a foil cake baking pan(from the dollar store) for each child.
This could not be simpler though! All that is needed are 2 ingredients:
2 cups cornstarch
1 cup water
Mix the water into the cornstarch
if can’t form it into a ball, add more cornstarch
if not liquidy enough, add more water
MAKE MOON SAND
This is another one that is super simple!
8 cups of flour
1 cup baby oil
I often add glitter, but you don’t have to. I usually do 1-2tbspns
Simply mix together
The kids love it!
DYE SOME PASTA
Dry pasta
Rubbing alcohol or vinegar
Food coloring
Large baggies
Put dry pasta into baggies(1 per color you want to use)
Mix the vinegar(or rubbing alcohol) and food coloring together.
Dump into the baggie and shake
Spread out to dry.
I dry it out by placing it on a cookie sheet lined with newspaper.
Once dry, great for stringing as beads and making jewelry or using in a sensory table or however you want to use it.
What better time of year than now to roll up your sleeves and dive into
I’d love to hear your recipes for a similar project!
