I’ve always believed that children learn best through hands-on experiences.
We were lucky because our local mall had a board game store, and would set up tables where you could go and try out games. They even offered tutorials on how to play certain games. My kids were young at the time and a lot of the games didn’t fit our family. However, this store opened my eyes to the numerous games out there! I was hooked on purchasing games, whenever my budget allowed me to. Every holiday and birthday, I’d try to get a new one. Our collection grew and I still cherish it to this day. I’m going to share with you some of our favorites through the years.

Youngest children, up to age 3:
Oh, how my kids loved this game! I remember playing almost every night before the kids went to bed.
I love EVERYTHING Eric Carle!
This is another game that I have the fondest memories of playing with my youngest. I’m pretty sure it is even what spurred his obsession with farm life(even though we live in the city).
Next up I’ll talk about some of our favorite games for 3-5-year-olds
This is my absolute favorite game and I still play it almost every week with my preschool kiddos!
This game is great at helping children to learn the correlation between seeing a word and spelling a word. We used this every day to help encourage our children to learn to read.
My other favorite for my emerging readers is this one:
This was definitely my favorite game as a child. I loved sharing it with my children.
There are some classic games also that I think never get old! They’re classics because they are just downright fun!
This was definitely our favorite as a family!
Here are my suggestions for the next age group: about

This is one of the first games my children played independently. It was so much fun! I’d often get jealous because they’d play without me!
Some classics that we really enjoyed at this age(and still):
I always thought this game was so much fun! I even remember playing it as a child.
I’ve always loved this game. It was too stressful for my daughter, who is a perfectionist, even at a young age. For my ADHD son, it was perfect. He loved the pressure and pace of it!
The next age group, I’m just going to say is ages 10 & up. Most of these games I still love as an adult!
As I said earlier, I love whodunnit activities!
This will always be my favorite game!
This is my probably my next all-time favorite game!
I remember playing this with my brother as a child. My 2 teens still play it all the time!
These are the rest of the games that I highly recommend adding to your family’s
And every family should own some version of Monopoly. I’m slightly embarrassed to admit how many we own!
No matter which games you choose to add to your family’s collection, remember, the important part is to take the time to play as a family. Family game nights are perhaps the most memorable and enjoyable way to pass an evening! I try to schedule one in at least once a month. Inviting friends over can even add more excitement! They will probably share their favorite games with you and you can share yours with them!
Schedule some time to get your game on!
What are your favorite board games that are not on my list?
I always love to find new ones to try!
Oh my gosh! I love this list. I’ve been looking for games to play with my little ones and these sound perfect!
