Have you heard of NaNoWriMo?
I hadn’t, until a couple of years ago. I wish I’d heard of it when all of my kiddos were younger.
So, what is NaNoWriMo?
Here is the link to their website, and it explains it all really well:

This is great!
They give you so many ways to get started, help you track your word count and give advice, and they hold you accountable.
What a great resource!
Take a little time to navigate their website as it honestly, has so much to offer.
I have never participated in NaNoWriMo, however, a couple of my children have. We have decided to do this as a family this year and are really excited about it.
Setting goals and being held accountable is something that can benefit all of us.
Deadlines are something that I really struggle with enforcing and something that I know is important for my teens to grasp.
I feel like this will help to get us all off to a good start this year.
I love creative writing!
It is something that some of my children love, and some detest. I have fond memories of my middle school days, when we had to write for a week straight, all day, each day. I looked forward to this week with excitement every year. Most of my friends dreaded it, but for me, it was a blissful week. In a way, NaNoWriMo this year, will be sort of like sharing that experience with my children.
Creative writing, whether a short story, novel, or poetry, is a great release for emotions and creativity.
Writing can also be therapeutic. For some people, it’s easier to write what you want to say than to actually vocalize it. Creative writing is a way to dream on paper. Creative writing can boost one’s imagination and encourage daydreaming. Learning to put your feelings into words is a habit that is important to instill in children of all ages.
With the importance of writing in our lives and the simplicity of the NaNoWriMo website, this is one adventure that I strongly encourage!
Grab your pen and notebook or your laptop and start writing!
I’d love to know if you decide to participate in NaNoWriMo this year!
